This month’s Foodie Penpal box was a lot of fun! I was sent a box from Dawn of Bare it all Fitness. I love that she sent me spices! I’ve used the herb seasoning on grilled chicken and I’m using the sea kelp delight on a roasted chicken tonight!
The liquid aminos are coming along with me in my next bento. I’ve been wanting to try liquid aminos for a while now and I’m excited to get my first taste.
Dawn actually sent me 3 packets of blue agave nectar but I used one in some iced tea before I took the photo. Loved it! Also sweet were the organic lollypops. They’re sooooo good!
I had never had these biscuits or Indian snacks before and they were an interesting flavor. The biscuits had almost a salty cinnamon flavor, and the snack mix is truly a little too complex for me to describe, lol! It has all kinds of crunchy bits, nuts, and dried peas and it’s coated in a seasoning that is just impossible to compare to anything else. It was so much fun trying it because it was so different than the flavors that I’m accustomed to.
I sent my package to Kelly over at Cupcake Kelly’s if you want to see what she got!
Foodie Penpals is a monthly program organized by Lindsay of The Lean Green Bean. You get paired with food lovers from all across the country and exchange foodie gifts. I’ve been participating for 3 months now, and I still love it!
This month I was being sent a FPP box from Andie of Sea Salt N’ Pepa. That is the coolest blog name I’ve ever seen! I asked her for foods that were popular in her neck of the woods and she sent me some southern New Jersey favorites!
This box was a lot of fun for me. I’ve never had anything in this box before! First of all, when I saw the coconut water I squeeled... just a little, but yes there was a sqeeee. There were also these unbelievable dried strawberries. They’re like the most amazing strawberry gummies you’ve ever had!
I already ate the cashew butter on some crackers as a snack, but I’m holding on to the walnut butter for something sweet.
Speaking of sweet, Andie also sent a box of Tastykake butterscotch krimpets. Have I ever told you that my cat has a sweet tooth? Well, I was eating one of these krimpets and she tried to steal it from me! Crazy kitten!
I have to admit, I haven’t tried the pork roll yet. I’m a little scared because it says to keep it refrigerated and the box was sitting in front of the house for a couple of hours in the FL sun waiting for me to get home.... I put them in the fridge immediately but I’m not sure if they’ll still be OK. This weekend I’ll venture in there and see if they smell funny :) In the meantime, I’m going to keep my eyes open for them at the store and pick up a pack if I find them.
I sent my FPP box to Brooke from The Well Nourished Traveler. Her blog is so much fun to read, go check her out!
Have a great weekend!
This month I was unbelievably lucky to be sent a box from Sylvia from Frolic Through Life. She said that she loves quinoa and wanted to do a quinoa themed box. Oh my heaven! She didn’t just send me quinoa. She sent me four fantastic foods made with quinoa! I had no idea these items even existed.
I mean, wow! Where do I start? Hubs and I immediately ripped into the quinoa clusters. They’re fabulous! The chocolate didn’t last long either, lol! The thin cakes tasted a lot like plain rice cakes. I ate them with the nut butters as afternoon snacks. Everything in this box was good. I was spoiled!
I’m definitely going to be getting more of these great quinoa products. This is why I love FPP!
I was so excited to try the pasta that I made it the same night my package came. Patience? What patience? I don’t even know what that word means. ;) While the quinoa pasta was cooking I sauteed onions, mushrooms, carrots, garlic, and snow peas. Once it was all finished, I tossed it all together with fresh cracked pepper.
The pasta has the texture of the whole wheat pastas I’ve tried and it was good! I dearly love vegee pasta and this hit the spot. For lunch the next day I packed it with a grilled pork chop, Korean melon slices, cheese, and a kiwi and blueberry fruit salad. Looking at this picture makes me wish I still had some.
If you’re interested, hop on over to Carrie at Family Fitness Food to see what I sent her.
Anyway, it’s a lot of fun and I’m really glad I participated. Now I can’t wait for next month!
My box was sent by a wonderful woman named Raven from Surely There’s an Instruction Manual. I was so excited I almost couldn’t get the pictures finished before I broke into the chocolate, lol!
Raven sent me some amazing goodies. I’ve been wanting to try the almond crush pocky for months but never actually got any. The ginger beer was intense! Hubs and I had to share it because I couldn’t drink it all by myself. See those flatbread crisps? Yeah, they were gone in a heartbeat!
Even though I have a black thumb I’m trying my best to grow the basil :) I hope it grows for me, lol!
I haven’t had a chance to use the drunken chicken marinade or somen yet... but I’m seeing a drunken chicken bento in my near future. Thank you Raven!!!!
I sent my box to The Single Nester. I was originally going to send a Japanese themed box, but ended up getting a bunch of different things... which turned out to be a really good thing! It turns out that she didn’t eat any of the Japanese and Chinese treats I sent because she couldn’t read the ingredients... oops! I felt so bad... I also had no idea.
At the beginning of the FPP process you email your penpals and ask about dietary restrictions, allergies, and dislikes. I learned a lot from this experience. Mostly that my questions need to be more specific, lol. When she said that she ate everything I didn’t think that the ingredients would be an issue. I included a description of every item but I didn’t translate the ingredients. Live and learn right?
I can’t wait for next month’s FPP!! I’m already planning a themed box :)
